The Summer Reading Challenge, which began June 1 and runs through July 31, includes reading, learning, exploring and energizing to emphasize STEAM learning in science, technology, engineering, the arts and math. Each summer the San Jose public library system challenges patrons young and old to read a specific number of books. This year’s program is aimed at eliminating the “summer slide,” or preventing learning loss. The challenge features an extensive series of demonstrations, programs and events, including San Jose Earthquakes teammates giving storytime readings throughout the library system. The program will also emphasize exploration and physical activity.
